Instructions:

For the cabbage patties with grilled sausage, peel the onion and cut into small cubes. Peel the apple, quarter it and remove the core. Cut the apple quarters into small pieces.

Heat the oil or clarified butter in a pot and sauté the onion until translucent. Chop the sauerkraut and add it with the apple, juniper berries and 150 ml of water. Mix everything and cook for 20 minutes, taking off the lid in the last 5-10 minutes so that most of the liquid can evaporate. Allow the cabbage mixture to cool briefly.

In the meantime, cut the sausages into pieces. Remove the cheese rind and coarsely grate the cheese, mix with the sour cream and season lightly with salt and pepper. Fish the juniper berries out of the sauerkraut.

Pour the sauerkraut into the pans. Spread sausage pieces on top and add some cheese mixture on top. Bake the sauerkraut pans with grilled sausage in the hot oven for about 8 minutes, until the sausages are cooked and the cheese is melted and lightly browned.

Preparation Tip:

Krautpfännchen with grilled sausage is an ideal dish for long winter nights.
